5 Must Know Facts about ISRO PSLV-C23 Launch

BANGALORE: Just recently, India witnessed a historic launched of five foreign satellites from four countries on board PSLV-C23 rocket that placed them in orbit. The satellites took off from the First Launch Pad in Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, located about 100 km North of Chennai.  So, read further to know the facts about ISRO PSLV-C23 launch.

PSLV:
Commonly known as PSLV, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, is an superfluous launch system developed and operated by the Indian Space Research Organization. It was developed mainly to allow India to launch its Indian Remote Sensing satellites into sun synchronous orbits, a service that was, until the introduction of the PSLV, was commercially available only from Russia.

PSLV can also launch small size satellites into geostationary transfer orbit. PSLV measures 44.4 m tall, with a lift off weight of 295 tonnes. Till now, the PSLV has launched 65 satellites (30 Indian and 35 Foreign Satellites) into a variety of orbits.

ISRO’s commercial arm:
The satellites are being launched under commercial arrangements that Antrix Corporation has entered into with the respective foreign agencies.
