In the 2012 election BJP secured majority against congress. Narendra Modi triumphed in the constituency with a margin of 86,373 votes against the contender Shweta Bhatt from the Indian National Congress. BJP in Gujarat led by Modi witnessed a resonant victory with 115 seats in the 182 member assembly election. Modi was covered widely for his campaign for the elections this year and the win is just an insignia of his spectacular work in Gujarat during his last tenure.
