20-Year Old Sets History, Becomes Britain's Youngest MP


BANGALORE: 20-year old representative, Mhairi Black, of the pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP) set history by becoming the youngest MP in Britain since 1667.

Black bet chief from Labour’s Election campaign, Douglas Alexander acquiring 58 out 59 seats in the exit poll, reports TOI.

Black would now proceed with her politics degree as the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South keeping her final exams at the Glasgow University ay bay.

"This election is about making the voice of this constituency heard and the whole of Scotland answered effectively in Westminster than ever before," said Black delivering her acceptance speech. "I pledge to use this voice not just to improve Scotland, but to pursue progressive politics for the benefit of people across the UK." she added.

She referred Alexander as a ‘career politician’ and her campaign speech included, "I'm coming across door to door of people who are tired of having an MP who's never here."

Black led the elections with 23,548 votes compared to 17,864 votes that were polled for Alexander. The public gathering at the polling station cheered for the winner with loud screams.

The presence of Scottish Nationalist Party escalated since the Scots united to vote against independence in a referendum in September, 2014.
