US President Joe Biden designates 130 Indian Americans in his administration, giving more opportunities to Indian-American communities and deepening the India-US relationship

A senior White House official stated that US President Joe Biden appointed 130 Indian-Americans to critical positions in his administration. He also noted that it is the best representation of the community that makes up around one percent of the American population.

Raj Panjabi, Senior Director for Global Health Security, attended the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava at the US Capitol, representing the Biden administration. An official list of prominent Indian Americans in the US government was read out by Biodefense on the White House National Security Council, and Panjabi said that the US President had appointed 130 Indian Americans to his administration. In his address to Indian Americans, Panjabi expressed that this act by the President is something to be proud of for the community.

Over 75 Indian American organizations had gathered to commemorate the historic milestone of India's journey after 1947. Among these organizations, India is the most prominent one. The theme for the event was stronger together: US-India partnership. Panjabi said that he is proud to be a part of an administration that focuses on diversity and establishing a government with leaders who look like and represent America.

In his Independence Day message, President Biden noted that as people across the globe, including nearly four million Indian Americans, celebrated the 75th India's Independence anniversary on August 15, the US joined the Indian people to honor its democratic journey guided by Mahatma Gandhi's enduring message of truth and non-violence. India and the US are indispensable partners. The US-India strategic partnership is grounded in the shared commitment to the rule of law and the promotion of human freedom and dignity.

The India-US relationship has been strengthening in recent years, said Ajay Jain Bhutoris, member of the President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. According to the list presented by Indiaspora, more than 40 Indian-Americans are appointed to various offices across the country, including four in the House of Representatives.

Besides this, over two dozen Indian-Americans are heading US companies, led by Indian-Americans Sunder Pichai of Google and Satya Nadella of Microsoft. This includes Shantanu Narayen of Adobe, Raj Subramaniam of FedEx, Punit Renjen of Deloitte, and Vivek Lall of General Atomics.
