100-Day Intensified Campaign Lays Strong Foundation to Fight TB: PM Modi
The 100-day Intensified TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan has established a robust foundation for a tuberculosis-free India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday. The Prime Minister's Office, in a social media post on platform X, showcased points made by Union Health Minister JP Nadda on the success of the campaign.
"India's battle against TB is seeing stupendous progress. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has some vital inputs on the just-concluded 100-day Intensified TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which laid a solid ground for a TB-free India – a must-read", the PMO announced.
Launched on December 7, the drive ended on March 24 and covered 455 high-priority districts in 33 states and union territories. The drive aimed to speed up TB case detection, decrease death, and halt new infections.
"The campaign has reached the nook and corner of the nation, screening 12.97 crore vulnerable individuals", Nadda wrote in his article. He added further that 7.19 lakh TB patients were notified during the drive, out of which 2.85 lakh were asymptomatic cases.
To facilitate the initiative, more than 13.46 lakh Nikshay Shivirs were organized, with more than 30,000 elected officials, corporate partners, and citizens participating. Moreover, more than 4.17 lakh vulnerable persons were screened and tested in high-risk settings like prisons, mines, tea gardens, construction sites, and workplaces.
The campaign also utilized community engagement, conducting over 21,000 TB awareness events during festivals, mobilizing faith-based leaders and influencers. In addition, 1,05,181 new Ni-kshay Mitras were enrolled to support nutritional assistance to TB-affected families.
Terming the campaign 'just the beginning', Nadda stated that the efforts will be intensified across the country to ensure equitable access to modern diagnostics, quality treatment, and robust community support.
