Bangalore: Divorce is considered one of the most traumatic experiences in a person’s life which leaves an emotional scar that lasts a lifetime. This, however, has not stopped people from breaking up. Here is a list of countries with the highest divorce rates:

10. South Korea

A couple of decades ago, Sunoo, one of South Korea’s leading matchmaking agencies had no divorced clients. Today, the country features among the top ten nations with highest divorce rates.

''South Korea is in a transition,'' said Lee Woong Jin, the agency's chief executive. ''It's a reality that divorce is rising and will probably continue to rise. At the same time, we are adhering to traditional values,'' as reported by The New York Times.

With people’s attitude towards divorce fast changing, South Korea is poised for a social transformation. There was a time when Confucian values of family and patriarchy governed the lives of people. Today, the society which has become greatly influenced by the West is more open. This has created a pop culture that has been breaking taboos and focusing more on self gratification. The divorce rate started increasing in 1997 and the reason can probably be attributed to the economic crash that happened around the same time.

9. Czech Republic

With a divorce rate of 3.11 percent, Czech Republic is the second highest in the EU, after Lithuania (which shares the 10th spot with South Korea. According to a Eurostat report, two married couples per 1000 inhabitants divorced on average in the EU, while in the Czech Republic it was 3.1 divorces per 1000 inhabitants in 2005.

2: Soviet women always worked so this article is pointless. Trying to copy the west? seriously?? The reason former soviet countries top the list is because people there actually get married in the first place whereas the rest of the world is practices cohabitation.

3: The Soviet Union encouraged gender equality. Women worked as well as men and brought money home. So, your statement about Ukraine's shift in traditional gender roles after independence is inaccurate.

4: "There was a time when Confucian values of family and patriarchy governed the lives of people."

South Korea was never a Patriarchy, idiots.

5: It's better to get separated than killing each other for the sake of society and family. Society is a hallucination made by us related to those people we want to stay. If they are not supportive better cut them off. Family can't be happy if the persons inside of that are struggling to repair a broken egg.Marriage is just a mutual understanding decided by two people to stay together. When they decide not to ,it's better support them. It's just a bond made by human, nothing like scriptures of God.

7: See, the Muslims are known for polygammy which is not even true. Rather engaging outside wedlock relation, it is better to marry more than once provided that all wives are equally treateed.

Another point in all so called champions of Women Liberated West and Europe, the maximum divocrce, sex abuse, domestic violance are reported. In Islam, out of the permisible things, the divorced as most dicouraged and hated option. Only when the situation from either sides has no option! Unfortunately, in India, either the lust of more dowry or a husband due to genuine reasons wants to divorce his wife, he some times, kills even ruthless 'bride burning'. Such husbands do becuase second marriage in Indian Law is not allowed and the divorced wife is legally for maintenace allowance from husband.

8: Divorce is a healthy option considering the value of life. If two people can't make it any more, there is no point suffering entire life by the name of our typical crappy Indian social values. One life, don’t spoil it. No one can stop this evolution. I bet.

9: Divorce is only permitted if it has reached a pretext that a life can be saved, in Islamic context.

10: Divorce is the most hated thing by ALLAH the Almighty.

12: India will beat soon as most families becomes modern and our youth becomes more modern ..we are losing our values as most guys/gals need to try different types of varieties like modern men/women

13: Divorce is a growing trend seen in India as well.. Indians try to imitate the west in everything too. We should use our discretion while choosing what to take from the west and what not to. Having said that, people should not stay within a marriage just for the sake of the society.

Bride Burning is only a Hype and feminist propaganda. But misuse of 498a and PWDV Act is a reality .Women Highly or Even completely misusing the Laws (Anti Male Laws). To get sympathy they fist compliant with a false 498A .it is even more dangerous then Divorcé.to get exact picture of divorcé we need to count how many 498A Case are pending and how many are coming up.

Divorce if necessary must become easy, and acceptable by the society, and surely killin the bride for dowry, or any other reason, is inhumane and barbaric. India needs to do a lot in this area socially.
