The intention behind collecting these 50-tonne stones still remains unclear and is thought to be for astrological or religious purpose. The structure consists of an inner ring of stones capped by lintels, an outer circle and a small channel circling it.

The design of the building was made by Michelangelo and the construction began in 1506 and went through 1626. St.Peter’s basilica is located to the west of Rome on the bank of river Tiber. It is well known for its roof paintings by Michael Angelo and is the burial ground of St.Peter, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus.
