U.S . shutdown could hurt visa services worldover

Washington:As various wings of the U.S. government braced itself of an eminent shutdown, officials said the ongoing U.S.-India Malabar exercise would escape the impact, but the visa appointments at the consulates in India could be badly hit. "A government shutdown, if it were to occur on friday, would not have any effect on Exercise MALABAR," a Defence Department spokesman told, when asked about the ongoing exercise between Indian and U.S. naval personnel, which is scheduled to end April 10. Designed to advance U.S.-India military-to-military coordination and capacity to plan and execute tactical operations, the at-sea portions is being conducted in the western Pacific Ocean, east of the Luzon Strait and east of Okinawa.
