Veteran Actor-Director Manoj Kumar Passes Away at 87
Veteran actor and director Manoj Kumar died at the age of 87 on Friday at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
According to reports, the medical reports show that Manoj Kumar died due to cardiogenic shock caused by an acute myocardial infarction, a major heart attack. The reports also showed that he had been suffering from decompensated liver cirrhosis lately, which had further deteriorated his health.
The legendary actor was hospitalised on February 21, 2025, when his condition worsened.
CEO and Executive Director at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Dr Santosh Shetty, said in a statement, "Veteran actor Shri Manoj Kumarji passed away peacefully this morning at approximately 3:30 AM at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital due to age-related health complications. He was hospitalized for the last few weeks".
After news of his death broke, tributes poured in within minutes from celebrities, politicians, and followers alike. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to conveying his sadness, lamenting the death of the iconic actor-director. Posting from his X handle, he said, "Deeply saddened by the demise of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji.". He was a legend of Indian cinema, who was especially remembered for his patriotic fervor, which was also seen in his films. Manoj Ji's films kindled a sense of national pride and will keep inspiring generations. My prayers are with his family and fans in this moment of sorrow. Om Shanti".
Manoj Kumar, popularly known for his patriotic movies, was lovingly referred to by the nickname 'Bharat Kumar'. Born on July 24, 1937, as Harikrishan Goswami in Amritsar, Punjab, Manoj left an indelible mark on Hindi cinema. His iconic performances in movies like 'Shaheed', 'Upkar', and 'Rang De Basanti' touched a chord of deep patriotism among the Indian audience.
Manoj Kumar, who was among the most successful actors of the 60s and 70s, had worked in various classic films such as 'Shor', 'Do Badan', 'Roti Kapda Aur Makaan', 'Purab Aur Paschim', and so on. Besides his career as an actor, he was also a producer and director.
