Prime Video India inks licencing contract with Global Paramount Content Distribution

Amazon Prime Video announced the growth of its English-language entertainment offerings through a licencing deal with Paramount Global Content Distribution. The four titles that are available for streaming to Prime and Prime Video Mobile Edition people at begin include The Stand, 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, and Star Trek: Discovery.

The deal also features other original shows including Californication, Dexter, The Good Wife, NCIS, Blue Bloods, The Good Fight, Madam Secretary, Reign, The Great, Seal Team, Under the Dome, Munich Games and Parot.

“We are delighted to announce that a curated selection of Paramount Global content is available for streaming to Prime Members in India at no extra cost," Manish Menghani, director - of content licensing, at Prime Video, India said in a statement. “The slate includes a diverse mix of genres from fantasy and adventure to drama and science fiction," he added.

In a recent interview Sushant Sreeram, country director, Prime Video, India said there is an opportunity to bring global stories and shows to the country, by localizing them using subtitles and dubbing, as the platform is doing with Citadel (a spy series starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden created by the Russo brothers premiering on 28 April).

“We’ve seen this with shows like The Rings of Power, The Tomorrow War and The Peripheral, and some non-English international shows like Maradona: Blessed Dream. With the right story, set-up and localization, even our international shows are finding an audience. Over 75% of Prime Video India’s customers watch international shows and movies in English or local languages. With localization in Indian languages, over 25% of total viewing time of international shows and movies is in Indian languages," Sreeram had said.
