Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound Set to Premiere at Cannes Film Festival’s

In 2015, Neeraj Ghaywan made a significant impact at the Cannes Film Festival with his debut feature, Masaan. Screened in the Un Certain Regard section, the film won two awards, including the prestigious FIPRESCI Prize, and marked the emergence of Vicky Kaushal as a star.

Now, a decade later, Ghaywan is set to premiere his second feature, Homebound, in the same section at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The film reportedly stars Ishaan Khatter and reunites Ghaywan with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, following their collaboration on the Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans. Filming for Homebound concluded in November 2024.

India has maintained a strong presence in the Un Certain Regard sidebar competition over the years, showcasing a range of impactful films, including Udaan (2010), Titli (2014), and Manto (2018). Following a successful year with Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light, Ghaywan’s upcoming film continues this tradition, highlighting the country’s vibrant cinematic landscape. As anticipation builds for Homebound, Ghaywan’s return to Cannes promises to further solidify his reputation as a significant voice in contemporary Indian cinema.
