Narendra Modi to Lead the Inaugural World Audio Visual &Entertainment Summit (WAVES)
In a bold move to position India as a global entertainment powerhouse, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025) in Mumbai. This four-day event aims to establish India as a significant player in the global media and entertainment landscape, uniting world leaders, industry experts, policymakers, creators, and technology innovators.
According to the latest FICCI-EY report, the Indian media and entertainment sector reached INR 2.5 trillion in 2024, with projections indicating a compound annual growth rate of 7%, potentially reaching $36.1 billion by 2027. Digital media is expected to spearhead this growth, climbing to $12.9 billion, while online gaming and animation/VFX are projected to grow to $3.69 billion and $1.72 billion, respectively.
Modi’s involvement highlights the Indian government’s strategic vision to leverage creative industries as key economic drivers. His address is anticipated to outline a roadmap for enhancing India’s role in the global entertainment sector.
The summit will feature prominent figures, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alongside over 100 international diplomats and policymakers.
Vaishnaw emphasized the transformative intersection of creativity, media, and technology, while Jaishankar described the summit as a pivotal platform for fostering collaboration and innovation.
WAVES 2025 will include seven program tracks, with highlights such as the Global Media Dialogue addressing critical issues like AI and digital rights, the WAVES Bazaar as a global e-marketplace for content trade, and the WaveXcelerator to support M&E startups. The event promises to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit, reinforcing Mumbai’s status as the ideal host city for this landmark summit.
