In a fillip to the animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics sector, the Karnataka Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science and Technology has collaborated with the Association for Behaviour Analysis International for the formal launch of AVGC Centre of Excellence 2.0. Under this three-year initiative, the sector can look forward to attaining growth, impelled by state-of-the-art technology and improved infrastructure.
The partnership is aligned with State's AVGC-XR Policy 3.0, building on the basic infrastructure created during the initiative's first phase. The new CoE will set up a virtual-cum-hybrid incubation space across Bengaluru and six other locations in Karnataka. Startups would be provided plug and play facilities at subsidized rates, thereby inculcating self-sufficiency and more industry participation.
The CoE would further provide opportunities in skilling and upskilling, backed by a mini data center with cloud connectivity and production technologies available on co-working basis. High-end servers and storage with advanced graphic capabilities will be made available across startups, SMEs, and studios for ease of production and cost efficiency.
A data storage center and render farm with cloud access will also be established, which shall also support start-ups from emerging clusters like Mysuru and Mangaluru. This infrastructure will spur growth in the AVGC sector, whose global and India market is pegged at USD 282.3 billion and USD 4.2 billion, respectively, by FY2026-27, registering a compounded annual growth rate of 10.94 percent.
IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge said it's of strategic importance to the sector and is likely to generate up to 30,000 new jobs. The CoE also falls in line with the proactive approach of Karnataka towards advancing skill development and fostering innovation in the AVGC field by bringing in the AVGC Policy 3.0, 2024-29.
