Sridevi, the versatile Indian cinema icons who started her acting career in the Tamil cinema at the age of 4, made her debut as a child artiste with “Thunaivan” in 1969. Sridevi earned fame as ‘Little Murugan’ in ‘Thunaivan,’ a Tamil devotional film released in 1971. Thereafter, she acted with Kamala Hasan, Rajinikanth and other top heroes, turning out blockbusters. She acted in many Tamil films then on. She also worked in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.  Winning the hearts of million fans, she entered into the bollywood industry and she gave so many blockbuster and commercially hit movies setting the landmark in her career.

Having worked for five decades in film industry, there is no genre that Sridevi had not mastered, from romance to comedy, horror to satire. From child artist to mega superstar, Sridevi ruled the acting industry in the 80s and 90s. On 24 Feb 2018, India is woken up to the sad untimely demise of Sridevi, 54, in Dubai. This sudden news shocked the entire Indian film industry and her fans worldwide. 1. Thunaivan (1969)

Thunaivan is a Tamil Hindu devotional drama film taken in Black & White. At the age of 4, Sridevi made her acting debut playing in the role of Murugan. This film was a musical hit as well as commercial success and ran for over 100 days.

2. Meendum Kokila (1981)

Meendum Kokila is a Tamil language film which sets the track record for Sridevi’s career as one of the top actresses in South India. This movie brought Sridevi into the limelight in Tamil film industry and won Tamil Filmfare Award for the Best Actress category.  She played the role of an innocent Brahmin housewife who is stuck in the love triangle.  It was a box-office success.

3. Sadma (1983)

Sadma is the film which gave a kick start for Sridevi’s career and it is considered as one of the best work of her. She played a character of a young girl who is suffering from retrograde amnesia, one behaves like a child. She played it with her counterpart, Kamal Hassan playing the part of a school teacher who falls in love with her and save her from the brothel house where she was trapped. The climax of Sadma is included in the CNN-IBN list of 'Bollywood's 50 Most Memorable Scenes of All Time.

 4. Himmatwala (1983)

Himmatwala is a hindi comedy-masala film which is the remake of Telugu film Ooruki Monagadu. After the release of this film, it became the biggest blockbuster of 1980s which had highest grossing Indian movie crossing 50 million.

5. Nagina (1986)

Sridevi played the role of ‘Naagin’ and known for her iconic song ‘Mein Nagin Tu Sapera’ setting the best snake dance moves in Bollywood. Nagina became the biggest blockbuster of the year with Box office India stating that Sridevi remained “undisputed No.1”. It was a commercial success and appreciated for its screenplay, dialogues and direction. She received the Filmfare Special Award for her performances in Nagina.

6. Mr. India (1987)

Mr. India is one of the 80’s biggest hits of the decade. Sridevi played the role of a young and chirpy news reporter and her counterpart, Anil Kapoor as the super hero, who discovers a scientist formula to become invisible at their wish. The movie has been recognised as one of the top 100 movies of all time in the history of Bollywood.

7. Chandani (1989)

Chandani is the romantic drama where Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi played the lead actors. It was one of the biggest hits and commercial blockbuster of the year. The movie won the national Filmfare award for the best popular film.

8. Lamhe (1991)

Lamhe is the romantic Indian drama, starring the iconic pair of Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, which was inspired by the Anokha Rishta. Sridevi and the directer, Yash Chopra both received so many praises for producing a wonderful movie. This movie fetches her prestigious Filmfare award for best actress.

9. English Vinglish (2012)

After 15 years of break, Sridevi made a comeback film with “English Vinglish”  and the film was a huge hit on the box office as the audience loved her performance. English Vinglish is the Indian comedy-drama which tells the story of a homemaker who enrols in an English- speaking class to stop her husband and daughter belittling for her lack of English skills. It was originally made in Hindi, later it was remade in Tamil and also dubbed in Telugu version. The film earned global acclaim at several international festivals and Sridevi was hailed as the "Meryl Streep of India".

10. Mom – 2017

Mom is the last film, marking the 300th film of Sridevi.  Mom is a thriller film which reminds that every girls/women in India are not safe to walk freely. The “Nirbhaya” incident rings the bells to many parents to hold their girls into four walls of home. This film brings the emotion of a mother whose daughter gets raped and how she fought hard to avenge rapist of her daughter. It is an emotional and heart renching story and Sridevi portrayed her character very well. This film was released in four languages and also received positive reviews from film critics.
