Movie Releases this Week (August 2- August 8)


Khandaani Shafakhana (Hindi)

A comedy-drama which is directed by debutant director Shilpi Das Gupta, Khandaaani Shafakhana stars Sonakshi Sinha and the rapper Badshah in lead roles. Along with them, the film also stars Varun Sharma, Annu Kapoor, and Priyanka Jora in supporting roles. The movie is about a girl from Punjab who was asked to run fertility clinic by her mamaji. As the society is conservative towards women, she faces many challenges running the clinic. The movie is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, and Krishan Kumar, with Sundial Productions and T-Series being the production companies.

Kolayuthir Kaalam (Tamil)

An official remake of 2016 American film ‘Hush’, Kolayuthir Kaalam translates to ‘season of murders’.  This mystery thriller film is directed by Chakri Toleti, who previously did movies such as Billa 2, Eeenadu, Unnaipol Oruvan, Khamoshi and Welcome to New York. Nayanthara, Bhumika Chawla, Prathap Pothen, and Rohini Hattangadi play key roles in the movie.

It is the story of a young woman with speech disabilities who found herself trapped in a huge mansion which is haunted by a chain of horrid murders. Produced by V. Mathiyalagan, Kolaiyuthir Kaalam is distributed by Etcetera Entertainment. The movie is the remake of the Hindi movie ‘Khamoshi’ which was released last month.

Jackpot (Tamil)

Starring as police cops, Jyothika and Revathy plays the main roles in this black comedy movie. Directed by Kalyaan, the movie also has Samuthirakani, Mansoor Ali Khan, Yogi Babu and Anandaraj in key roles. 2D Entertainment is the production company and the movie is produced by Tamil Superstar Suriya, who is also the spouse of Jyothika. This is Jyothika’s second movie as a police officer previously being Bala’s Naachiyaar. Reports say that Jyothika has done some stunts without going for a stunt double.
