Bollywood Movies that were Banned


Bangalore:  Off late people in India have become very intolerant to movies and their subject line. A little bit is enough for the entire community to be up in arms and demanding a ban on the movie. While certain movies have been banned by the censor board because of the content which can be justified, but the protests from various communities just goes on to show how insecure and intolerant India has become as a society.

The barber community was upset with the movie Billu Barbar and they wanted Barber to be removed as they felt they were being degraded by bring called barbers, in the same way the Telli community were upset and seeked a ban on Vishal Bharawaj’s movie Kaminey because of the song “Dhan Te Nan”. This was because the song used the world ‘telli’ in the line “Hai till till taala mera teli ka te”.

Well here are 10 such movies that were banned till the courts intervened. Let’s have a look at the reasons behind why they were banned

Kissa Kursi Ka (1970)

Well the Emergency declared by the Indira Gandhi Government has now become a blot of shame in the Indian Democracy. During her reign as the Prime Minster the media industry faced a very tough time with anything slightly against the government getting a banned slapped on them.

But with Kissa Kursi ka, the government crossed all limits as they gather the reels of the movie and burnt it.

The movie starred Shabana Azmi, Raj Babbar and was the first political spoof made in India. The movie was taken well by Sanjay Gandhi and his Youth Congress. They felt that the reference to cars who a dig at Sanjay’s Maruti car project.

Later when the Shah Commission looked in to the crimes during Emergency, it held Sanjay Gandhi guilty of destroying the reels and he was sentenced to a month in Tihar Jail. The movie was then later re-made but this time it didn’t not star Shabana Azmi.
