The Worst Security Mishaps of 2012



SEPTEMBER:

A group called Al-Rashedon knocked the websites of broadcasters Al Jazeera by attacking its Domain Name Servers (DNS).

Antimalware firm Sophos was forced to apologize for releasing faulty antivirus software update for its customers. The update resulted in let outs for certain malware, resulting in an overall disruptions for weeks.

Next to come up with an outage was GoDaddy, who suffered a major outbreak that mad its website unavailable to its customers.

Facebook agreed to remove all its facial recognition data from its European users as their consents on privacy aroused. Also the facial recognition software was against Europe’s data privacy laws.

OCTOBER:

Adobe agreed of a security breach as massive number of user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords were stolen and posted online.

Amazon Web Services storage service or Elastic Block Storage faced a performance outage or degradation, which eventually resulted in outage of certain social sites such as Reddit and Imgur.
