Mercedes - Benz Latest to Use Cloud Technology in their Vehicles

Bangalore: Motor giant, Mercedes – Benz have come up with a great idea of incorporating their automobiles with the latest, trending and cutting edge technology- cloud computing.

According to their recent ad, the company has come with apps that allow drivers to check all the latest happenings across the globe, including news, sports, weather and traffic. Drivers can also update their status on their favorite networking sites. Mercedes also claimed that owners will be having additional abilities like downloading new apps from Mercedes, all via cloud computing technology.

Mercedes is not the sole manufacturer to come up with this idea, as earlier other automotive producers like Audi, BMW, Honda and GM also have sound their strategies of integrating cloud technology within their cars.

In April 2011, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer and Akio Toyoda, president of the Toyota Motor Corp, announced that they are thinking of a $12 million investment in the car manufacturing, as Microsoft wants Toyota to incorporate Azure cloud to deliver telematics to its vehicles - a combination of telecommunication and information technology.

“It’s part of a larger trend by manufacturers to allow owners to stay connected when they get in their car,” says Mark Boyadjis, an automotive analyst at IHS iSuppli. Boyadjis also reminds that it’s a good strategy by Mercedes, advertising the use of cloud technology within their vehicles surely can boost their growth.

But Boyadjis asks “Does the average person really care about the cloud in their car?”
