Saudi Aramco Confirms Hack Reports
Bangalore: One of the world’s largest energy producers, Saudi Aramco has confirmed reports on a serious hacking attack on company’s electronic network. Another interesting fact is that the attack happened at the same time when security providers warned companies across the energy sector of a new malware called Shamoon. Arab Youth Group has claimed the responsibility of the attack.
Aramco has confirmed the hack, as they said that they suffered a “sudden disruption,” which happened because of some virus that affected their PCs.
"The company has isolated all its electronic systems from outside access as an early precautionary measure," the company said. "The disruption was suspected to be the result of a virus that had infected personal workstations without affecting the primary components of the network."
The company hasn’t presented any further updates since the attack, so it’s pretty unclear on what the situation is at the company. The company also hasn’t provided any further details on fully conditional restoration.
Saudi Aramco, fully owned by the Saudi Arabian government also said that "The company employs a series of precautionary procedures and multiple redundant systems within its advanced and complex system that are used to protect its operational and database systems." With this statement, the company has confirmed that the attack hasn’t affected neither of their production or business operations.
