'Intel Is Trying To Reduce its Dependency on PCs'

Bangalore: Chip manufacturer, Intel, launched its tablet processor recently, and it is looking like the company is all set to bid adieu to its dependency on the paralyzed PC market.

The new Windows 8 tablet processor named Clover Trail adorns an Atom Z2760 chip and is scheduled to arrive in the market along with Microsoft Windows 8. Intel, which has been a dominating player in the PC market took a huge step by launching a tablet processor and it is directing towards the company’s attempt to reduce its dependency on the crumbling PC market.

The tablet processor market is currently being dominated by the ARM processors. It can be viewed as a smart move by the company as the tablet market is on a boom and expanding with every passing day.

Until now, Intel failed to monetize the smartphones and tablet expansion which proved to be an unwise decision on their part.

The major completion that Intel would be facing is from Apple’s iPad that sports Apple’s A5X processor and is a stand-alone player in the tablet market. But the combination of Intel and Microsoft might lure customers away from the iPad. And though Intel’s move is being considered ‘smart’, analysts say that it might be too early to declare that the PC and laptop market is anywhere near being dead.
