India PC Shipments Rise 7.5 Pct In Jan-Mar: IDC

Bangalore: India PC shipments rose by 7.5 per cent to 2.71 million units in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the previous quarter, research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) said.

The branded desktops witnessed execution of a few large deals, primarily in BFSI, IT and government verticals, supporting the overall commercial growth in Q1 2013, IDC said.

However, consumer market remained largely flat with a marginal quarter-on-quarter growth of 1.5 per cent in January-March noted over Q4 2012, it said in a statement here.

"High inventory in the beginning of the quarter and weak sales towards the closing weeks largely pulled back the growth witnessed in Q1 2013," according to Kiran Kumar, Research Manager, IDC India.

In the commercial PC market, the drag noticed in the past couple of quarters waned off in Q1 2013, driving quarter-on-quarter growth in the commercial spending to about 12.8 per cent over Q4 2012, he said.

In terms of vendor share, HP claimed the top spot with a 22.5 per cent market share in Q1 2013.

Acer and Dell tied up for the second place with a share of 13.8 per cent in Q1 2013, IDC said.

According to Manish Yadav, Market Analyst , IDC India, in addition to their success in the consumer business, HP picked up key wins and witnessed the execution of large deals in Government and BFSI verticals in Q1.

Both Acer and Dell continue to play to their respective segment strengths. Acer remains strong in the commercial business while Dell was seen riding high on its price cuts, specially on notebooks, he said.

IDC said it anticipates stable prices and back to school campaigns to reverse the sober mood in the consumer PC market.
