Government To Access Mobile Data Over Security Concerns


BANGALORE: The government is planning to establish rules and systems that permit the law enforcement agencies to track telecom devices and users data by granting access to text messages, information data, targeted communication and other value added services, reports Times of India.

As the telecom department failed to create the stipulations for law enforcement agencies to cut off communication, the Department Of Telecom (DOT) has set up wide-ranging rules in the draft policy after the home ministry affairs has expressed strong reservations.

In the draft policy that deals the national security issues, the DOT has mentioned that the policy would set up systems, processes and rules for ensuring the traceability of mobile devices or users’ data in terms of current location, permanent address and identity with specific precision and decision in case of requirement.

Analysis of data and information including decrypted messages, flowing through the telecom network, fed in devices and systems will be improved by giving the latest technology and system access to the security agencies, mentions draft policy.

DOT has declared that the telecom department needs separate security policies that are capable of handling security concerns. For executing and updating the policy, a Telecom Security Directorate has been designed. In addition, there will be a security certification centre to examine telecom devices and a centralized monitoring system to interrupt and monitor and emergency response team to track and analyze cyber attacks, internet hijacks and telecom frauds.
