Government Of India Encourages Women Entrepreneurs

BANGALORE: The Indian government is now contemplating as to whether woman entrepreneurs can lead the upcoming Flipkart.

The government had recently formed alliance with Indo-U.S. Science, Technology Forum and Anita Borg Institute. They will be sending a group of Indian tech woman entrepreneurs to the (Silicon Valley) U.S. to help them get familiar with the entrepreneurial culture, reports Economic Times.

This month they will be introduced to some of the biggest executives at eBay (world's largest online market) and Google to get guidance and learn strategic investments. They will also get acquainted to with government agencies, trade associations and venture capitalists to help build their business and raise capital, which is a challenging concern for woman entrepreneurs.

"The government of India has initiated several measures to promote entrepreneurship among women as it realizes the critical role of women in national development," said Anita Gupta, director at government-run National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science and Technology. "The government alone cannot sustain the movement of empowerment of women," added Gupta.

Whether it’s aiding online retailers to get to know the demand of their customers or manufacturing wearable tech clothing that charges gadgets, these women are on a relatively new ground. What was once traditionally led by men is now been taken up by women

"While women are stepping forward and breaking the glass ceiling on their own, we believe that to accelerate this pace there is tremendous value in sharing best practices across our nations," said Smriti Trikh, senior science manager at Indo-US Science and Technology Forum.
