Finally TCS Gets Into The League Of Top 10 Global IT Services

BANGALORE: Country’s the largest IT service provider, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has joined with top 10 global IT services companies, moving from the 13th place in 2012 to 10th position in 2013, according to the latest report by HfS Research, the consultancy firm that compiles the grading.

Twelve years ago, when TCS had around $1 billion revenues, CEO S Ramadorai had sketched an idea of being among the top 10 by the year of 2010. Owing to the global financial crisis of 2008-09, the company has taken a little more time, but currently it has reached there, and considering the speed up on which it is rising compared to its global counterparts, the grading  will be better in the coming years.

“Consult with any western service provider, that quakes everyone from the sub-continent is TCS,” writes Jamie Snowdon, the Executive Vice President of research operations at HfS Research.

The firm has estimated that TCS holds up $10.1 billion revenues (out of total revenue of around $12.5 billion), while IBM ($54.4 billion), Fujitsu ($32.1 billion), Hewlett-Packard ($29.2 billion) and Accenture ($25.4 billion) top the list.

After evaluating the IT services, the research eliminates the sectors such as BPO, R&D service and hardware/software products, and it make use of the figures for the four quarters of calendar year 2013. TCS has augmented to the 10th position, replacing Montreal-based IT company CGI.

Indian IT companies such as Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro and HCL are on the 15th, 18th, 20th and 25th positions respectively. HfS Research assumes that Cognizant will be among the top 10 in the coming 2-3 years, may be at the expense of U.S. IT firm CSC. Last year CSC‘s revenues were down compared to the previous year.

On TCS, Hfs states about its hostile targeting of renewals and new business, especially in continental Europe, was a significant factor in motivating its assault on the leaders. TCS is often found as being more flexible on pricing and conditions, and holds a reputation for gaining any deal anywhere in the world at any price, if it really requires.
