Evolution of Indian IT Since The 90's

Bangalore: The 90’s are considered to be the last decade when we were detached from technologies. It was the time when computers were a commodity less known and IT system was a topic only nerds or pros were aware of.
During the 90’s, a computer system usually consisted of big and bulky hardware, huge mainframe systems and giant desktop screens. This was the time when CIOs were mostly techies and IT operations were thought of as support functions.
Director of IT Solutions and Services, Geometric, Prashanta Ghoshal reminisces how IT offices resembled large rooms during those days that were stuffed with electronic devices, bulky computer hardware and big desktop screens. The IT department was treated as back-office operation.
But in the past two decades, the Indian IT and IT service sector has seen tremendous transformation that can be attributed to the liberalization of Indian Economy. The days of bulky computer systems have been replaced by IT designs that have the ability to leave anyone awestruck by its sheer brilliance. The sector has shown significant growth since then. According to the annual NASSCOM report that released in February 2012, the Indian IT and IT service sector has earned 5.6 lakh crores in revenues, thus contributing 7.5 percent to the country’s annual GDP.
The major sectors that have contributed to this growth are Banking, Enterprise Resource Planning and Manufacturing. Here we will take a look on these three pillars that have contributed in revamping the IT industry. Have a look:
