10 Wild IT Security Tricks That Actually Work
#6. Tarpits:
One of the best security techniques, accepted throughput the tech world is the use of tarpits. One such famous tarpit deployment is the LaBrea Tarpit launched in 2001 to stop the outbreak of Code Red IIS worm. What LaBrea did was that, it would reply for the connection attempts for addresses that don’t belong to the network domain. After accepting the connection from the worm, the codes in LaBrea where constructed in such a way that it would spend the rest of time in slowing down the worm. Thes tarpit also used protocols that could push the worm into longer timeouts and multiple transmissions. Nowadays more and more new companies are going for the better security by deploying good security measures like tarpits, non portals, non directories and so on. But one of its much talked disadvantage is that tarpits can cause problems in networks, if the current server is slow and if the server is responding slowly.
