5. Microsoft buys Skype

Value: $8.5 billion
Microsoft acquired Skype, in the largest deal ever by the U.S. software giant. Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft regards as the champion of the deal. Ballmer and Skype CEO Tony Bates inked the deal.
The deal is good for Microsoft’s partners like Nokia and Facebook. Facebook and Google were said to be the initial dance partners for Skype, and Microsoft was a late entrant and walked away with the prize.
4. Hewlett-Packard buys Autonomy
Deal happened in: August 2011
Value: $10.24 billion
U.S. technology major Hewlett-Packard acquired British enterprise software company, Autonomy. CEO of Autonomy, Mike Lynch and his counterpart Leo Apotheke were the brains behind this deal.
However, later on the deal was in news for the wrong reason as HP complained to the U.S. authorities about alleged accounting improprieties by Autonomy.
