Bangalore: Hacking has been around since ages, infact computer and network hacks have been into existence for, well, pretty much as long as we've had computers and networks. Today’s cyber crimes are financially motivated and most of these are driven by either greed or some form of ideology. Several high-profile hacks have made news in recent years, but some of the hacking incidents have made history.

With widespreading cyber crime activities businesses all over the world have scrambled to ensure their networks’ integrity. Here is a list of 10 deadly hacking incidents that made headlines by Joan Goodchild of InfoWorld

Lulzsec Hacks Sony

Lulzsec one of the most popular hacker group, exploded onto the world hacking scene with a series of high profile system intrusions including the compromise of user accounts from Sony Pictures in 2011.

In June 2011 they hacked into Sony Pictures using SQL injection to exploit vulnerabilities in the company's online databases, they stole data that included passwords, names, email ids, and home addresses of thousands of customers. Among other exploits, they targeted BioWare, Nintendo, Fox Broadcasting Company, EVE Online, Minecraft etc they also claimed responsibility for taking the CIA website offline. However, few weeks after the hack founding Lulzec member Sabu (real name Hector Xavier Monsegur) was arrested by federal agents who eventually pleaded guilty.
