UTStarcom to Setup its Manufacturing Unit and R&D Centre in India

UTStarcom, a global telecom infrastructure provider is intending to establish its manufacturing plant and a research & development centre in India after BSNL clears its dues.

The company supplies network gears for the broadband service. BSNL and Tata Teleservices are its two main clients. Also, UTStarcom has already decided to establish the manufacturing units and R&D centre but is waiting for BSNL to clear its dues which would exceed 500 crore by the end of this year.

To cash on the forthcoming 5G services, UTStarcom is developing networks gears that could support about 200GB per second speed from 2020 onwards. Furthermore, the company had a turnover of about 574 crore in the financial year 2018-19.

"We have already approved plans from our management for manufacturing and the R&D centre, but because of this slowdown and issues in the dues collection, we have deferred our plans till December. The management will again review the position in December and after that, they will take the final decision," states Rahul Pandey, Managing Director, UTStarcom India.

"We have done the investment in the area of transmission and broadband products. Similarly for Next-generation Network, we have supplied more than 30 lakh of the access ports in 2018-19, mostly to BSNL and Tata. We are expecting the market to revive next year," he adds.

The Hong Kong-headquartered telecom company was established in 1991. Its product enables mobiles, network operators and enterprises to develop efficient and resilient transport, aggregation and access infrastructure for a wide range of applications.
