Transforming Bengaluru: The New 2 Million sq.ft. Business Park at Kempegowda International Airport
Bengaluru Airport City Limited, a subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Limited, broke ground on its ambitious 2 million square feet Business Park to establish Bengaluru as a global hub for GCCs.
According to the official release, this falls under the new GCC policy of the Karnataka Government (2024-2029), which aims to create 3.5 lakh jobs and contribute $50 billion to the economy.
Bengaluru Airport City would be on the Kempegowda International Airport campus, being developed as a mixed-use destination on par with global excellence, featuring business parks, an Education and Health District, R and D Hubs, and multiple entertainment and hospitality options. Airport city would have the capacity to function as an international gateway for sustainable, smart, and vibrant urban development.
The Business Park will be built on an area of 17.7 acres with four blocks of 0.5 million square feet, encased in an urban forest. Each block contains gardens, landscaped balconies, and spaces integrated with the workforce to create balance between nature and productivity.
Rao Munukutla, Executive Director and CEO of BACL said "Bengaluru has grown to become the GCC Capital of the world. The city has cemented its status as India's premier hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with 36 per cent of India's GCC workforce driving growth across IT, biotechnology, automotive, and aerospace."
The Airport city will feature a network of business parks, which constitute 52% of the total development, and is built to enhance collaboration and innovation in this flagship Business Park.
Soon to be opening is the Airport West metro station, which is within walking distance of the Business Park and improves connectivity to the city centre of Bengaluru. Bengaluru Airport City is also shaping an Advanced Technology Hub, with the operational use of 3D printing and a high-tech central kitchen, which reflects its commitment to innovation.
