The Government would encourage Indian manufacturers of tele equipment to do business with the US
Indian telecom equipment manufacturers may soon get an opportunity to team up with businesses in the United States, with the Centre planning pitches during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. The move comes months after Washington stopped the sale of network equipment from large Chinese companies due to security concerns.
According to sources, the consortium of TCS-Tejas-CDoT, Shyam Vihaan Network, Niral Networks, Lekha Wireless, Signaltron, Resonous, Amantya Technologies, WiSig Wireless, and Galore Networks are the companies that pitched to the government by Indian industry body VOICE which is a grouping of local makers.
The telecom department had received the names of the companies from VOICE as potential candidates for 4G upgrades and 5G pilot projects in the US. Companies working on 5G core, mobile edge cloud solutions, base stations, IoT sensors, and 5G handsets are included on the list.
"The government wants to position the Indian companies for 4G and 5G telecom work in the US, especially promoting them as 'trusted sources', amid moves across the world to find new suppliers, instead of just relying on Chinese vendors, such as Huawei and ZTE, for mobile telephony business," source said.
Communications minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and minister of state for IT and electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar have already said that solutions made in India are not only highly cost-competitive, but carry the hallmark of being trusted solutions.
