- Tata Elxsi and Infineon signed an MoU to co-develop EV solutions tailored for the Indian market.
- The collaboration will deliver high-voltage inverters, BMS, onboard chargers, and thermal systems using advanced semiconductor tech.
- The initiative aligns with India’s 2030 targets for EV adoption, especially in 2W, 3W, and CV segments.
Tata Elxsi, a global leader in design and technology services, and Infineon Technologies, a leading semiconductor solutions provider, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop application-ready electric vehicle (EV) solutions tailored specifically for the Indian market.
This partnership comes at a pivotal time as India accelerates its shift towards electrification, with EV sales growing at a robust 25–30% year-on-year in 2024. The electric two- and three-wheeler segments alone have witnessed a 28% increase, highlighting the urgent need for scalable, cost-efficient, and safety-compliant EV systems.
The collaboration aims to leverage Tata Elxsi’s strengths in design, system integration, and validation with Infineon’s advanced semiconductor technologies. These include early access to silicon carbide (SiC)-based components, microcontrollers, and integrated circuits (ICs), which are vital for high-performance EV systems.
Together, the companies will focus on the development of critical EV subsystems such as high-voltage inverters for traction and auxiliary systems, scalable battery management systems (BMS), bi-directional onboard chargers, and high-voltage thermal management systems. These solutions will cater to India’s dynamic 2W, 3W, passenger vehicle (PV), and commercial vehicle (CV) segments. The collaboration also sets the stage for future advancements in emerging sectors like electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL), energy storage, and off-highway vehicles.
In line with global safety and performance benchmarks, the partnership addresses critical automotive safety needs including compliance with ASIL-D standards under ISO 26262 for functional vehicle safety.
“Currently, several of our EV solutions are already built on Infineon SoCs and components. This MoU further strengthens our partnership by giving us a clearer scope and tighter system-level alignment, enabling shorter turnaround times to address Indian market requirements”, said Nambi Ganesh, Head of Automotive at Tata Elxsi.
Kenneth Lim, Senior Vice President – Automotive, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, added, “This partnership is a significant step toward supporting India’s ambitious electrification goals. Together, we aim to accelerate EV adoption across multiple vehicle segments and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future”.
The initiative is aligned with national targets set by NITI Aayog, including 80% electrification of two- and three-wheelers and 70% of commercial vehicles by 2030.
