STT GDC Intends to Increase its Data Center Capacity in India

STT GDC India, a data centre colocation services, announces its plan to double its capacity in the following three years intending to capitalize on the data growth in the country. The company is majorly owned by a Singapore based company, ST Telemedia. Recently, the company attained 100 megawatts of IT load capacity with the launch of a new facility in Bengaluru.

"With Bengaluru facility coming up, we have reached 100 megawatts of IT load capacity in India. We are planning to invest beyond this. In next 2-3 year we plan to double our capacity," says Sumit Mukhija, CEO at STT GDC India.

"We have now exhausted 70 percent of our capacity and now starting to set up new facilities across top cities in India, including Pune, Chennai and Delhi," he further adds.

The company has been in service since 2004. It is managing about 15 tier-3 data centre facilities across eight major cities. In 2016, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has acquired about 74 percent majority stake in Tata Communications' data centre business in India. On 19th October 2016, the data centre joint venture transaction was completed successfully at the estimated 100 percent enterprise value of Rs 3,140 crore.

Furthermore, Sumit states that the data consumption in India is paving the way to more data centres in India. Thus, the company would continue investing in building additional capacity to meet the demand of this growth.

The latest expansion increases the data center to 15 under the STT GDC India's ownership and administration. Further, the company increases the power capacity to more than 90 MW of critical IT load across eight cities.
