Reliance Jio to promulgate 4G Internet with Low Data Tariffs at 0.5 paisa per 10 kb

BENGALURU: With slew of smart-phones in telecommunication landscape and reducing cellular usage for mere calling purpose, the new challenge that emerges from economic and business perspective is to render the cheapest mobile data plan. As such, few days after Bharti Airtel had cut down prices of its fourth-generation (4G) data offering in select cities, Reliance Jio Infocomm could as well startle the market by facilitating 10kb of data usage for just 0.5 paisa. The rate stands significantly low when compared to 4 paise per 10 kb data, being levied by other counterparts including Idea Cellular, Vodafone India and Bharti Airtel. This move will help Jio to stand distinguished and slash the market competition effectively, reports The Economic Times.
These low data tariff were disclosed in various SIM card kits available in Reliance Digital Xpress stores across different cities. According to a Jio starter kit, all STD and local calls are charged at 2p/sec, messaging at Re 1 for Local/National and Rs 5 for international. Besides these regular charges, the roaming is charged at 45p/min for incoming and 80p/min for outgoing. Against such premise, it is interesting to compare that although Jio’s base tariff is not much different than other telcos’ base tariff; what Reliance Jio is planning to offer for 4G data usage appears to be lowest in the market.
However, it is also important to note that Jio’s 4G SIM services are currently not available for general mass but have been allocated only to the company’s retail staff as part of a network trail. A fully-fledged commercial launch is expected to take place later towards the end of this month.
In the midst of such favorable environment where telecomm companies are striving innovatively to boost the idea.
