Omega Seiki Mobility partners with Honda Power Pack Energy for battery swap tech

Electric vehicle manufacturer Omega Seiki Mobility has unveiled a strategic alliance with Honda Power Pack Energy India (HEID) to introduce battery swap technology in more than 10,000 passenger and cargo vehicles within the coming two years. In this partnership, HEID, a subsidiary of the Japanese automotive titan Honda Motor, will furnish Omega Seiki Mobility with interchangeable batteries for their EV and establish a rapid exchange station network in major cities across India, according to a statement from Omega Seiki Mobility.

Honda's battery swapping service allows auto rickshaw drivers to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones at strategically positioned battery stations, as stated by OSM. This technology significantly reduces the initial purchase costs of electric vehicles, addresses concerns about limited range, and minimizes downtime associated with battery recharging. Omega Seiki Mobility's founder and Chairman, Uday Narang, expressed that this swappable battery technology marks a revolutionary shift that provides exceptional efficiency and environmental benefits, aligning perfectly with their vision of rapid, clean, and accessible electric transportation.

Narang further noted, "Over the next two years, our plan is to incorporate Honda's swap technology into more than 10,000 vehicles spanning passenger and cargo segments". Omega Seiki Mobility also disclosed that their upcoming electric three-wheelers, for both passenger and cargo use, will feature Honda's intelligent interchangeable batteries, harnessing advanced lithium-ion technology. Meanwhile, HEID aims to create an extensive battery swap network, initially in Bengaluru, with plans for expansion into other Tier 1 cities.

Tomohide Haraguchi, Vice President of Technology and OEM Development at HEID, emphasized that the lithium-ion battery technology and expertise Honda has developed over many years in the global four-wheeler market has been concentrated in their swappable battery pack. He welcomed the collaboration with Omega Seiki Mobility and expressed confidence that this safe and dependable lithium-ion battery pack offering will accelerate the growth of OSM's innovative electric vehicles.
