Mercedes-Benz R&D India Expands Sustainability Garage Initiative
Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) has expanded its Sustainability Garage initiative, launching two new Centres of Excellence in Hyderabad and New Delhi. The announcement was made during the Mercedes-Benz Sustainability Dialogue India 2024, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The first centre, the Climate Tech Incubator, aims to support 25 social enterprises focused on sustainable mobility and environmental innovation. In collaboration with T-Hub, a leading Indian startup incubator, the centre will provide seed funding, mentorship, and support to these enterprises. Additionally, over 500 students will be engaged in developing innovative climate tech solutions.
The second centre, established in partnership with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), will focus on charging infrastructure. It will offer specialized training, with plans to certify 60 young professionals this year to meet the growing demand in this sector.
Renata Jungo Brüngger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, highlighted the company’s commitment to long-term value creation and ecological sustainability. Manu Saale, Managing Director and CEO of MBRDI, emphasized India's pivotal role in driving climate-positive solutions.
The first Sustainability Garage Centre of Excellence, launched earlier this year, focuses on developing sustainable materials. The Sustainability Dialogue India 2024 brought together industry leaders to discuss innovations in decarbonisation, circularity, and sustainable mobility.
