Is it Kingfisher Airlines or United Spirits for Mallya?
Mallya’s Business Domain
The 56-old, Vijay Mallya has tried many of the diversified business ventures, some of them were glamorous, some were less glamorous and yet others struggled due to the inefficient management of those ventures, Binoy Prabhakar, ET Bureau notes.
United Breweries Holdings, owned by Mallya, has stakes of Kingfisher Airlines, United Sprits, United Breweries and of some other firms. United Breweries is the No. 1 beer company in India, which produces beer brands like Kingfisher, London Pilsner, Zingaro, UB Export, Black Label, Bullet and Guru.
Mallya’s debut in the airlines industry, Kingfisher Airlines, KFA, once used to be India’s No.2 airline by the market share. But today it has become the smallest. Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers is another company Mallya is likely to lose the control of.
His United Spirits was world’s largest spirits company by volume; selling 122.75 million cases for the last fiscal. It owns 22 millionaire brands such as McDowell No.1 and Bagpiper, having a 59 percent market share in India and it still making money.
