India, The Fastest Growing Country In Mobile Subscriptions: Report

BANGALORE: According to a report released by Ericsson, India stands ahead of China for having the fastest growth in net additions to mobile subscribers’ base, reports ZeeNews.
The report stated that the mobile subscriptions can double by the end of 2020 and around 70 percent of the population will be a part of the movement. For the first quarter of 2015 itself India has added 26 million subscribers to the world subscriptions total of 7.2 billion of which there are 108 million new subscriptions. The report further predicts that by the year 2020 there will be 26 billion connected devices.
This range of exponential growth in mobile subscriptions is a combination from the developed and developing fronts of which the major part is where the regions are still developing.
The predictions from the report probe in to the amount of data that will be used in future basing the numbers as of now. The mobile data usage is predicted to multiply by tenfold and most of it will be through smartphones and the average data usage is 2.4 GB as of now will increase to 14 GB.
And by 2020 the mobile video traffic is likely to increase 55 percent yearly and will integrate around 60 percent of all mobile data traffic by the end of the predicted time.
Rima Qureshi, senior vice president and chief strategy officer at Ericsson said that the increase in data traffic, mobile data traffic and mobile subscriptions will depend on factors like screen sizes and form factors of connected devices, new revenue streams, Smartphone uptake, cost efficient delivery and inviting new business models that will be cost effective and durable.
