India and US Strengthen Energy Cooperation at GasTech 2024

At GasTech 2024 in Houston, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt held a crucial meeting to bolster energy cooperation between the two nations. They reviewed current collaborative efforts and explored strategies for a 'just and orderly energy transition'.
Puri, who is on a visit to the US, underscored the growing partnership in the energy sector, driven by joint initiatives between Indian and American institutions and companies. He shared updates on the deepening ties and future opportunities through social media, highlighting the significant collaboration.
During his visit, Puri inaugurated the India Pavilion at GasTech, where Indian companies showcased their latest advancements and investment opportunities. He emphasized India's progress toward energy self-sufficiency under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the pivotal role of Indian firms in the energy sector.
In his address to a ministerial panel, Puri discussed India’s proactive stance in addressing global energy challenges and provided projections for future energy demand. He noted that India’s energy needs are anticipated to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 3% through 2040, with a notable increase expected by 2050.
Puri also highlighted India’s commitment to boosting domestic production and diversifying energy sources. He mentioned initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance, stressing the importance of global partnerships in advancing clean energy. Earlier, Puri and US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm co-chaired the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership Ministerial, reviewing progress across various clean energy initiatives and technical pillars.
