Bangalore: The man who turned a simple manufacturer of vegetable ghee, vanaspati and refined oils into one of India’s biggest IT services company is celebrating his 68th birthday. Yes, we are talking none other than Azim Hashim Premji!

When Premji entered Wipro as a chairman, the company was dealing with hydrogenated fats, cooking and bakery fats. After few years Premji decided to shift the company from a soaps manufacturing company to an IT firm. That is how in 1980s Wipro diversified into a software company.

Under Premji’s guidance, the company which was 70 million conglomerate became the pioneer in the field of integrated business, with a successful platform that has multiplied globally. Today, the company is the third largest provider of R&D in the world with the annual income of U.S. $12.2 billion.
