Beware while Shopping Online This Diwali Season
BANGALORE: In this festive season all the e-commerce portals in the country are in a competitive run with numerous discounts and offers, offered across internet. From top brands to designer labels all apparels, accessories, home décor and electronic devices are on sales. But according to the cyber crime experts there are an increased percentage of online fraudsters who are targeting the online customers in this season, reports Business Today.
As the Diwali online sales are rapidly growing, the possibility of getting cheated by online fraudsters is getting high. These fake websites have spread their wings over internet with eye popping discounts and are waiting for their pray. The experts claim that these cyber crooks are making use of social engineering tactics to attract internet users.
The additional superintendent of Police of Uttar Pradesh where the Special Task Force is entrusted with the task of tracking down the internet fraudsters stated that "As many as 1,700 cases have been registered under the IT Act with us. In over 50 per cent cases, people were duped online. We have recently cracked a few cases of fake shopping portals. After creating fake websites, frauds either send bulk messages to customers or boost their reach through sponsored links on social media,"
The strategy of these cyber crooks is to offer whooping discounts on hot selling gadgets in the market through which they could attract huge consumer base. According to the experts such criminals are making a lot of money through these fake websites.
