Apple Targets 50 Million Annual iPhone Production in India
Apple plans to produce over 50 million iPhones annually in India, intending to shift part of its manufacturing away from China, according to sources. The tech giant targets accomplishing this goal within the next two to three years, with plans for additional tens of millions of units in subsequent years, as reported, citing individuals familiar with the matter.
If Apple achieves this target, India would contribute a quarter of the total global iPhone output. The report notes that China will retain its status as the primary iPhone manufacturer. Apple faces challenges in relocating production from China, with its major supplier, Foxconn, intending to establish additional factories in India. Meanwhile, Tata Group is reportedly preparing to construct one of India's largest 
India saw mobile phone exports worth $5.5 billion (over Rs 45,000 crore) in the April-August period in the ongoing fiscal year (FY24), according to government and industry data. As per estimates by the Department of Commerce and the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), the April-August period saw mobile phone exports worth $5.5 billion, against $3 billion (about Rs 25,000 crore) in the same period in FY22-23.
In the period from April to August, Apple emerged as the leader in exports of phones manufactured in India, surpassing 50 percent of the total estimated figure for the first time, with Samsung following. During the June quarter, Apple accounted for nearly half of the country's 12 million smartphone shipments, while Samsung held a 45 percent share. The current fiscal year is expected to witness India crossing Rs 1,20,000 crore in mobile phone exports, with Apple commanding over 50 percent of the market in FY24.
