Altman-founded Worldcoin Temporarily Pauses Orb Verification in India, Brazil and France
Worldcoin project (to build the latest privacy-preserving identity network) co-founded by Sam Altman, has temporarily paused its Orb-verification service in India, Brazil, and France. This decision comes just a few months after the service was initially expanded to these markets. Tools for Humanity, the foundation overseeing Worldcoin's development, mentioned that the Orb had been extended to several markets for a limited duration earlier this year.
The foundation is committed to working with international partners to guarantee that the service adheres to regulatory standards, offering a secure, transparent, and safe experience for users who have undergone verification, it stated. "The multi-city tour kicked off in Tokyo in April 2023 and marked the first time people in many locations across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia were able to experience the Orb. The tour concluded late summer and was also complemented by previews of the Orb in a number of cities globally alongside the launch of the protocol", Lily Gordon, a spokesperson of Tools for Humanity, was quoted as saying.
In July, Altman introduced 'Worldcoin', a cryptocurrency startup centered around eyeball-scanning technology. The aim is to develop a dependable solution for distinguishing between humans and AI online, facilitate global democratic processes, and significantly enhance economic opportunities.
In the previous month, the iris biometric cryptocurrency token of Worldcoin experienced a decline following Sam Altman's removal as the CEO of OpenAI. The token, known as WLD, saw a decrease of over 12 percent, reaching $1.91, as reported by CoinMarketCap data. Altman's iris biometric cryptocurrency venture secured $115 million in May during a Series C funding round, with Blockchain Capital leading the investment.
