After Starlink Elon Musk's, Another US Company Wants to Launch Satellite Internet in India

Globalstar has made significant strides in the Indian satellite internet market by securing test spectrum from the Department of Telecommunications for satellite-based disaster management applications. This development positions Globalstar as a potential competitor to Elon Musk's Starlink, as both companies seek to establish satellite internet services in India. If the Indian government grants the necessary permissions, Globalstar could join Starlink in providing satellite internet access.

In addition to Globalstar and Starlink, other companies such as OneWeb, Project Kuiper, and Orbit Connect are also pursuing approvals to launch satellite internet services in India.

Globalstar has submitted an application to the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) to initiate its operations. The company is also expected to apply for a GMPCS license from the Department of Telecommunications, which is essential for launching satellite internet services. Approval from both agencies is required before Globalstar can proceed with its plans.

The company has already obtained test spectrum to showcase its satellite technology for disaster management purposes. However, to connect the general public to its satellite internet services, Globalstar must secure a commercial license.

Additionally, Globalstar is collaborating with Apple to provide direct-to-cell satellite internet services for iPhone users, enabling satellite calls for emergency services. This partnership, which began in 2022, currently serves users in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and several other countries, but does not yet include India.
