Adani Group Signs MoU for 570 MW Hydroelectric Plant in Bhutan
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) to develop a 570 MW hydroelectric plant in Chukha province. The agreement underscores Adani Group's commitment to green energy and collaborative infrastructure development in Bhutan.
In a meeting with Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Adani praised Bhutan's infrastructure initiatives driven by the vision of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. "Absolutely fascinating meeting with Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Hon. Prime Minister of Bhutan. Signed an MoU with DGPC for a 570 MW green hydro plant in Chukha province. Admirable to see @PMBhutan advancing the vision of His Majesty The King and pursuing broad ranging infrastructure initiatives across the kingdom. Looking forward to working closely on hydro & other infra in Bhutan," Adani shared on X.
The hydroelectric project aims to harness Bhutan’s vast hydro potential, contributing to sustainable energy production and strengthening bilateral ties between the Adani Group and Bhutan.
Adani also had a productive dialogue with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, expressing admiration for the King's visionary approach towards Bhutan's development. "Honoured to meet His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan. Inspired by his vision for Bhutan and the ambitious eco-friendly masterplan for Gelephu Mindfulness City, including large computing centres and data facilities," Adani stated on X.
He expressed enthusiasm for partnering on Bhutan's transformative initiatives, including green energy management, reinforcing Bhutan's goal of becoming a carbon-negative nation. "Excited to collaborate on these transformative initiatives as also on green energy management for a carbon negative nation!" Adani added.
The Adani Group's engagement in Bhutan is set to enhance sustainable energy infrastructure and support Bhutan's vision for eco-friendly and technologically advanced developments.
