Adani and MetTube Join Forces to Boost India's Copper Tube Manufacturing and Self-Reliance
  • Adani and MetTube form a 50:50 joint venture to manufacture high-performance copper tubes in India.
  • The partnership aims to reduce import dependence and support sectors like HVAC, renewable energy, and smart construction.
  • The alliance leverages Adani’s infrastructure and MetTube’s global expertise to scale up domestic production and promote ‘Make in India’.
In a strategic move to strengthen India’s copper tube manufacturing capabilities, Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), the flagship firm of the Adani Group, announced a 50:50 partnership with MetTube, a subsidiary of the UK-based Metdist Group. The collaboration is aimed at delivering high-performance copper tubes for applications in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), renewable energy, and smart construction, while also reducing India’s dependence on imports.
As per the agreement, Adani Enterprises will divest a 50 percent stake in its wholly owned subsidiary, Kutch Copper Tubes Limited (KCTL), to MetTube Mauritius Private Limited. Concurrently, AEL will acquire a 50 percent stake in MetTube Copper India Private Limited, a subsidiary of MetTube that operates a copper tube manufacturing plant near Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The Adani Group stated that this alliance would leverage its advanced copper manufacturing infrastructure in Mundra, Gujarat, and MetTube’s global experience in copper tube production to develop a future-ready copper tubes business. “The dual investment structure ensures equal ownership and shared governance, enabling both entities to co-create a sustainable and scalable enterprise”, the company added.
Jeet Adani, Director at Adani Group, said the collaboration marks a major step towards India's self-reliance in copper tube manufacturing. “By combining Adani’s infrastructure and operational excellence with MetTube’s expertise, we are not just building capacity but enhancing India’s capabilities”, he said.
Apurv Bagri, Chairman of Metdist Group, emphasized that the partnership aligns with the 'Make in India' vision. “The growing demand for copper tubes in India presents a significant opportunity. This joint venture will deliver high-quality, locally manufactured Inner Grooved copper tubes that match global standards”, he added.
MetTube brings decades of global manufacturing experience, while Adani Enterprises is already developing a 0.5 million tonnes per annum copper refinery project in Mundra, further enhancing forward integration within the copper value chain.
The copper tubes produced through this joint venture will cater to sectors like air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, and smart infrastructure – areas witnessing rapid growth due to urbanization and climate-responsive infrastructure development.
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction. However, the partnership is seen as a significant industrial development, aiming to support India’s green infrastructure goals and improve energy efficiency through high-quality, domestically produced copper products.
This move is expected to scale up production capacity, enhance speed to market, and support sustainability by enabling the supply of high-performance copper tubes across India and beyond.
