The travel and tourism industry evolved exponentially over the last five years and travel has become non-negotiable among the Indians nowadays. The tourism market is growing at a double-digit rate and it is still unaffected by the economic slowdown, it is one of the fastest-growing sectors in India, which gives a significant contribution to the GDP. Factors such as e-visa, government initiatives, and others have played a vital part in attracting more international tourists. This opened up the sector with more career opportunities in travel and hospitality. The government has decided to cut the GST tax rate on hotel charges, with the GST rate for room tariffs of 7.500 and above has been reduced to 18 percent from 28 percent, while those between 1,000 and 7,500 has to pay 12 percent.

Recently, Amitabh Kant, CEO of Niti Aayog presented a vision of a 50 billion dollar tourism sector by 2022. It is really necessary to recognize the strengths of different states according to tourism and bring forward the growth. Improving the quality of tourism is one other factor he emphasized.

However, India is estimated to generate over two million outbound luxury and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourists annually by 2020. The outbound MICE tourism market is expected to make nine billion dollars by 2025, and in 2020 India is expected to reach more than two million outbound MICE tourists, as per the organizers of the MICE India and Luxury Travel Congress.

The tourism market is indeed a booming sector in India and the breed of young innovators has already working out-of-the-box ideas to stand out from the rest. The AI and other technology-based inventions will be working well with the mindset of the millennials. There are start-ups, which are disrupting the travel space by providing customized vacations and hostel facilities to cement the relationship between travel agents and suppliers.
