Two Indian Firms Win Sustainability Awards In Singapore

SINGAPORE: Two Indian firms have won the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards (ACES) in Singapore for addressing issues impacting the environment.

Mumbai-based banking company IndusInd Bank and India's foremost cement manufacturer ACC Limited won the award yesterday, which recognizes successful companies and individuals in Asia across two main domains: leadership and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

While the former won the CSR advocates in Asia award for its power management policies including the use of solar at ATMs, the ACC Ltd won the top green companies in Asia award.

ACC was recognized for its initiatives as "a Green company" and managing alternative fuels and raw materials as well as waste management.

The awards were presented by Malaysia's MORS Group to a number of Asian corporations for their environmental initiatives.

"In a country like India with widespread damage to natural ecosystems and biodiversity, and land degradation and extreme weather events severely impacting agriculture, the need for sustainable strategies is even more necessary among corporations," said MORS chief executive officer Shanggari B.

"Thus we hope corporates in India will start looking at sustainable practices in measurable ways to bring about meaningful impact," said Shanggari.

The ACES Awards had received 8 nominations from India.
