Top Brands Betting High on Rural Niches to Boost Sales

Bangalore: Hot shot companies are surging up the consumption ladder as all are eyeing the rural sector with strong purchasing power to top-up revenues, reports Anshul Dhamija of Times of India.

Auto major Maruti Suzuki spotted about 300 rural slots in last five years, accounting for 10 percent of the company’s domestic profits. The company concentrated on reaching the Mango people of the country like the potato growers in West Bengal, blue pottery makers in Jaipur, timber merchants in Gujarat etc to beat the 2008 slowdown. Maruti Suzuki is one of the enthusiastic marketers to the rural spots now.

"The rural opportunity is really an ocean of niches. There is not one rural, but thousands of rural niches and each niche is an opportunity," said brand-expert Harish Bijoor.
