P&G Head in India; Meets Modi

BENGALURU: David Taylor, Procter & Gamble, Global CEO (P&G) Company, who was on business trip to India, reinforced the American consumer product multinational's interest and focus on India.

This was his first visit to India after taking over the reigns as CEO in November last year. Taylor met PM Narendra Modi and stressed the need to work together with the Indian government on the Clean India initiative. P&G has offered its help by bringing in their latest technology to reduce waste to landfill, making India a leading country to leverage this new technology.

Taylor said, "We also reaffirmed our mutual goal to improve the lives of women and children. We are doing our bit by providing brands and products that offer health and hygiene benefits like Whisper and Pampers and by providing access to education for underprivileged children through P&G Shiksha," as reported by ToI.

On his trip, Taylor also visited various stores to gauge the pulse of Indian consumers. India is a massive market for P&G, with $1.5 billion business in India, which saw improved profit margins by 750 basis points over the last two years. P&G’s two listed entities— Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care, and Gillette India — reported growth in single digits, while profits saw a sharp rise in double digits for the year, which ended on June 30, 2016.

P&G is witnessing a downturn worldwide and is witnessing slow and sluggish growth. In India, too, P&G is reportedly looking seriously at certain unprofitable lines of business and de-prioritizing it.
